Nuts Linked to Lower Risk of Atrial Fibrillation

A prospective Swedish study suggests that nuts consumption or factors associated with it may play a role in reducing the risk of atrial fibrillation. The study included 61 364 Swedish adults followed up for 17 years. There was an inverse association between nuts consumption and incident atrial fibrillation, and remained after adjustment for multiple risk factors. Compared with no consumption of nuts, the multivariable hazard ratios of atrial fibrillation across categories of nuts consumption were 0.97 for 1–3 times/month, 0.88 for 1–2 times/week and 0.82 for ≥3 times/week. Nuts consumption has been found to be inversely associated with cardiovascular disease mortality as well. Source: http://heart.bmj.com/
