A large global study in patients with coronary heart disease revealed that self-reported tooth loss was associated adverse cardiovascular outcomes and all-cause death independent of cardiovascular risk factors and socioeconomic status. The study included 15,456 patients from 39 countries with stable coronary heart disease. Patients reported number of teeth and were followed for 3.7 years. After adjusted for cardiovascular risk factors and socioeconomic status, tooth loss was associated with cardiovascular death, all-cause death and non-fatal or fatal stroke. The finding indicates that mechanisms leading to tooth loss, such as periodontal disease, may contribute to a worse prognosis in coronary heart disease. Source: http://cpr.sagepub.com/
