Multiple cutaneous nevi (moles) may reflect plasma hormone levels and predict breast cancer risk independently, a prospective cohort study found after following 74,523 white females for 24 years (1986–2010) in the US. The number of cutaneous nevi was associated with increased risk of breast cancer only among estrogen receptor (ER)–positive tumors. Source: http://www.plosmedicine.org/
Another prospective cohort study concluded that higher red meat intake in early adulthood may be a risk factor for breast cancer, and replacing red meat with a combination of legumes, poultry, nuts and fish may reduce the risk of breast cancer. The study included 88,803 premenopausal women in the US and followed 20 years.
