The US FDA and EPA have issued advice regarding eating fish (refers to 62 types of fish and shellfish): Eat 2 to 3 servings a week of a variety of best choices fish, such as salmon, sardine, tilapia, and shrimp, etc. Eat 1 serving a week of some good choices fish, such as halibut, mahi mahi and carp, etc. Avoid certain fish with the highest mercury concentrations, including shark and swordfish, king mackerel, marlin, orange roughy, and bigeye tuna; avoid tilefish from the Gulf of Mexico. Check for advisories for fish caught by family and friends and where no advisory exists, limit eating those fish to one serving a week and do not eat other fish that week.
